The conference facilities at the Old Deanery in the heart of the city are well equipped and bang up to date. Yet the Old Deanery is a magnificent Grade 1 Listed medieval building. There are two large conference rooms each seating up to 60 people together with smaller seminar rooms for group work. There is a pleasant garden to the rear and side of the property which delegates are free to use.
In the late fifteenth century the Old Deanery was visited on at least two occasions by King Henry VII. The building is also said to be haunted by the ghost of Dean Raleigh, nephew of Sir Walter. The lovely private garden at the rear and side of the building is associated with William Turner, Dean of Wells in the mid sixteenth century. Turner was a physician as well as priest and he was particularly interested in the medicinal properties of plants. He established a herb garden at the Old Deanery.
